If you are selling or a landlord of a property in WA be aware there are new laws regarding RCD switches and smoke detectors.

The law regarding RCD switches will apply both to people selling their homes and to landlords. Every home sold or leased will need to be fitted with a minimum of two RCDs, which must protect all power point and lighting circuits. If you have an older home there is a real possibility you will need to have the home rewired. The law is effective immediately if you are selling or signing a new lease.

As of Oct 1st new legislation was introduced that property owners will have to have mains powered smoke alarms fitted before selling or renting, or risk a $5000 fine. If there is no hidden space to conceal the necessary wiring a long life 10 year battery smoke alarm can be installed.

Are any of you selling or landlords? Did you hear about this from your real estate agent?
