hey all.
my parents are currently thinking of painting the inside of their house again, im trying to coach them away from the hideous blue colour they always go for. on my walls i currently have dulux "Chintz Half" i love it with the trims British Paints colour "coffee break", i should of kept them just white i think(??) but it still loots nice i think! i wouldnt mind them going the colour lighter then the chintz (too in love with the colour i think)
anyhow what do you guys think would be a nice refreshing colour that isnt too bold or out there? i will be going around with them and picking samples etc, so if you guys have a fav let me know!

Good on you for encouraging them to do something different to what they normally do.
What colour is there sofa or anything else that will go into the rooms?
My all time favourite colours are for walls Dulux Hogs Bristle half strength with white skirtings etc. When I want something a little more sultry & moody I love Dulux Warm Neutral and Toffee Fingers, both are a coffee colour. These colours do go with a lot of other colours too:).
I'm just going to move this to the General Decorating and Handy Tips Forum so everyone catches it.

hehehe thanks sooo much for moving it as soon as i did it i realised!!! oops!
well their couch is a dark blue, tv unit is dark wood, the kitchen cupboards are a light wood, which i think would look nice with a light sand and a darker stain. mum has a dark red curtain up too, i dont think it looks too bad (the colour of the curtains but they are easy to replace anyway)
i like the lighter coffee/neutral colours, as the furnishings can add the colour and excitement to the room! mum is up for it but its dad that really really wants the blue.... ewww.
ill check the colours out with them next time we head into the paint shop!

I agree with staining the kitchen. I'm not a fan of having a dark wood and a light wood in the same area- but that's just my opinion.
Here are the 3 colours Hog Bristle half, Warm Neutral and Toffee Fingers.
Maybe you could compromise and have a blue feature wall. Of course a feature wall in blue wallpaper would be nice but we don't to push your Dad over the edge:D:
When seeing how the paint colours will look I suggest if the paint card looks ok when you get it home then go back and buy a sample pot and a piece of A3 white card. Paint the white card with 2 coats of the paint but leave a white border around the edge. This way the existing blue paint shouldn't change the colour. Hold up the card in all the rooms and at different times of the day to see how it looks. Although they are popular colours and go great in most homes the light in a home can change the paint colour dramatically.
