Hello Everyone,
Today we went to look in a couple of retail spaces for a hair salon set up.
I had found this place a long time ago and had never looked at it again, now we are ready for the move and its still avail for a great price.
Its a triangular shape with great natural lighting.
I want to create a relaxed beach theme as we are right by the beach.
Using horizontal beading.
Individual mirrors for each work station.
Timber bench tops running the length of the walls.
All timber painted Antique White USA.
Lighting on walls using floodlights facing upwards. with perhaps a large textured piece near the reception desk.
Speaking of which I'd like the reception desk to be in centre of room with a floating wall behind desk which on the other side would be the basin area, so clients at basin face into that little doorway which I'd remove the door and hang natural coloured Linen on a rod there.
Out the front of shop a couple of v big chubby plant pots with a faded patina look and date palms.
So it sounds like I'm sorted but I would love any ideas, please........
I will be posting the journey on my blog here

I really look forward to your ideas, ps I love white!!

It all sounds gorgeous.
I would recommend you get the timber spray painted professionally as the paint will be less likely to chip.
The layout sounds great and all your ideas so far. I guess you have to think of the elements we would use to make a living area look beachy- like the horizontal beading.
I will have a hunt around for some inspiring pictures for you.

oooohhh thank you gals so much
yes i'm hunting like mad also for a new home for us to live in. Just viewed a place this morning-shocker and filthy!! that would need serious work.
Have a great little pad by the beach to look at this afternoon. 1 Bedroom. We are doing a serious downsize!
Thanx for the tip on the spray paint Julie-Ann
I need to do a blog post on this I think

I love these blinds for a beach theme. Plus they will be cheap. I did see in a display home once where they had added a 2-3cm band of material to the bottom and sides of this type of blind which made them very stylish:)

What type of floor is that ablancspace?
Have you thought about the chairs for the clients? Maybe something in taupe to be practical but beachy colours?
I was thinking you could have an old wooden ladder against a wall to store the magazines on. I would secure it to the wall though to prevent it falling and knocking someone on the head:D.

hey love these ideas Julie-Ann, thankyou
the floor is carpeted a the moment but will take up and thinking of timber look lino which I have in the salon now and is soft under foot and looks good too in a pale blonde colour.
I have a spare old ladder I was going to get rid of but I love your idea!
Yes chairs are a big one for the clients comfort and our needs for good cutting requires good chairs.
Used to have cane ones from ikea but too bulky and made clients slouch too much. and the ones we have now I don't love and not super comfy. But I hadn't thought of the taupe/putty colour, will look for that!!

many thanks again

I am thinking these sort of woven mirrors will add to that coastal theme, they also have them in a round version which could look a bit port holey;)

You can get lots of these cotton weave pendant lights in large and small and hanging them in different heights over your counter.

I love the magazine ladder idea as thats what I have in my home.

Would you consider the white washed timber look lino, or would that get too dirty....then big bits of driftwood as your client tables.....
and then a couple of these as your products holder/room divider..

I also found this online and thought it was a great little read for salon design.

I'm loving all the ideas so far.
What colours were you thinking of for the salon?
Yes I saw all sorts of beachy type chairs but I couldn't imagine them being suitable.
I was thinking on the reception desk you could put some sort of arrangement using shells. I found these 3 for some ideas.
So what's left to decide. I love this -I have never done a hair salon before:)

Those shell filled vases look fantastic. What a great idea Julie-Anne.
I pictured those very cool hampton white deck chairs as the waiting chairs and one side of the salon in a really dark navy colour, to add drama of course.;)

gee I love all of these ideas
I was thinking of individual hanging mirrors too - hadn't thought about the cane frame look-like the idea
I was thinking of hanging lights above the reception desk and I really like those ones and 3 grouped or 5 clustered at different heights would create quite a feature - I likey
Also like the product shelving idea
I have been thinking of a lots of whitewashed wood and painted wood. The whitewashed floor is a great idea. I like this.
I am aiming to do it all on quite a budget so need to head to some auctions.
I haven't even thought about it today as been unit hunting between clients & baby feeding!!
So its so lovely to feel supported like this - thank you so much

Truth is we are having lots of fun.
Love the idea of a group of the lights.
What else do you need to decide on?

We will all now have to look for bargains for you. You are in Sydney aren't you?

I am totally addicted to chinese lanterns at the moment and i think the cream ones look amazing in beachy homes.

You could hang a group of them in a corner at different heights and sizes for a feature and it would probly cost you no more than $50 :)

So many great ideas so far, good luck!!
