So who is the home handyman in your house? Or is it shared between you and your partner or your children?
I have a friend who does all the handyman jobs in the house. I am not sure if it is because her husband can't do these things or just doesn't have the time.
For us my DH does everything involving power tools. We both do the painting. I try to do the smaller tasks. Until recently I did all the gardening except the hedging. Hedging not only involves power tools but it was DH's idea to put in 218 African Box hedge plants. My theory if he is that silly it is his problem:D. Although I must admit they look good. Oh and I call the tradesmen when necessary:D.

So what about in your home?

I call my mum. She is my fave handyperson.

We typically have lived in new homes/units so maintaining things isn't such a c****. Mum changes washes.. Appliances are under warranty or not worth fixing. I am big on warranty and insurance.

I do lots of things for myself.. I love my blowervac and mum has a power washer thingy i am quite fond of LOL Andrew (husband) vacs, mows and edges. We both do exterior glass and house washing. He does the gutters.. which reminds me.. they need doing!

but i would happily call in someone for a bigger job i think.

In our house my dh mostly does handyman jobs when he knows how to fix things and prides himself when he does a good job.
He likes to joke "not bad for someone who is in IT":) We both do gardening together and he does the mowing, screwing, nailing and stuff like that. I have never painted any walls before but he has painted two feature walls in our previous house. I think he did a great job. I do a lot of little things too.

My 11yr old son loves to do anything around here and if he sees that something needs doing and we have the items needed he will do it.

I also love to get in and do things and often have lots of ideas in my head - I can think they are great ideas but hubby can ofthen think otherwise!

My hunny is more a sporty man and a bit of a couch potato  so really doesnt like it when we need him to do something around here.

My 11yr old and 14yr old like to mow the lawns - I love to but I cant as it makes me sick and I near pass out I think it is all to do with my illness.

My head is full of ideas atm but it is always time and money that stops these things from happening.

I would call in a handyman/tradie if I could afford it to get the job done better and faster!

Hi ladies my dh is a bit of a perfectionist and small diy jobs seem to take forever. When I return from okra with any shelves or cupboards he runs a mile. But now my older boy is really into taking things apart so we now give him things to put together which he really likes doing.

I'm always in a hurry to get things completed up and running and a bit impatient. My men seem to take their time and never seem to be in a hurry.
We share the gardening at weekends.
I'm the pool maintenance man, cook and cleaner, hubby is the rest.

I'm at the hair salon at the mo so if this seems disjointed my apologies as I have to keep switching off

I am smiling... I was expecting most to say husband's but I love that Lanne calls her Mum and Tammy has her son doing it! Ahhhh so there is light at the end of the tunnel for my 3 boys! They will finally be able to do something useful? LOL

My husband does most of the jobs in our house but I do give everything a crack :)

Anything to do with power tools my hubby handles, but generally i like to tackle most things myself.

My husband is working away at the moment and its amazing the jobs you can accomplish if you have no one else to rely on except yourself.

We normally share the painting but last time we paid someone to do it, we share the gardening, but we have a pretty low maintenance garden, generally i clean up inside and he does the outside - mowing etc.

Since moving into the shop I have mastered the step ladder, hanging hooks evenly while balancing on a step ladder, moving furniture myself and I even put together a flat packed display cube LOL

my next door neighbour must have had a good cackle to himself the other week when he came home and saw me with the grinder!! I reckon I had the grinder half a metre away from me!!

I don't blame you for holding it that far away Tammy. I would worry about chopping of a foot:D.

I do all the painting including the prep work (sanding, spack filling, putting up the painters tape). I can use some power tools and if I can do it myself I will. If I try and try and I still can't get it, then DH gets yelled at to come and help:D I do all the gardening and hubby does the pool cleaning. He won't let me near the pool unless he is there because I can't swim:(
We take turns mowing the grass.

I always admire a woman you mows the grass- something I have never done. I too am the Polyfilla queen- to the point that I know not to use Polyfilla:).
That is a worry Traceyl being around a pool when you can't swim:(. Can't your DH teach you?

My hubby definetely does all the handyman stuff inside and out. I try to help but I am a bit of a clutz so just make things worse alot of the time :)

Dh is the perfectionist handyman in our home. Most of the time if he needs something to be done and he doesn't quite know how he will see if he can do it 1st and then call in a tradesman...
I try most things just to give them a go, but handyman jobs really make him puff his chest out and beat it like a drum and I don't want to take that away from him:D

We usually hire someone!

Occasionally I get my young brother-in-law to do things around the house for us. He is 21 and pretty helpful in exchange for dinner!

we do a bit of both...DH is just finishing building our deck/pergola, but I have helped along the way where I can, I do most of the painting and prep work inside and out. he builds me garden beds, I destroy old ones, and also take care of the new ones, he does the mowing. We both bounce design ideas off each other and then work out how to do something (as we look at things differently), but he does admit to leaving the finishing touches to me as I am picky

Julie-Ann, he has offered to teach me, but I'm too scared. I have almost drowned too many times to count.

Rachel let you brother know that I am happy to feed him for any handyman jobs- what a deal:D.
Traceyl start of by trying to float. If you can float you won't drown in a pool- well as long as you are on your back and not your front:eek:.
