Hi,
I have been making some cushions for my new store and I asked Julie-Ann what colours and designs that would be good to make and she suggested that I post it here and ask you.
So, What colours and or styles do you like in a Cushion cover? What can't you find but wish you could?
I'd love to hear your thoughts! :)
Thanks
Dannielle

I said to Dannielle on Twitter:
Blue never seems to be out of fashion.
Browns are popular, especially patterned material with several shades of brown.
And greys are in
If you were to buy some cushions tomorrow what colour would you be looking for? Plain or patterned?

Personally, if I was going cushion shopping tomorrow I'd go for a pattern but in an earthy colour. We have a beige modular lounge and because it's sooo neutral, a splash of pattern and colour really brightens it up. But that's just me :D

I find grey and yellow hard to get... and as these are my branding colours for 2 of 4 brands... and the media room is decorated accordingly for clients.
I found some great ones on etsy and a few who would custom make them for me.
I think texture makes for more interesting cushions that plain fabrics. I would rather a couple of cheaper plain/simple patterns and then some special ones i would spend more on.
Laura ashley do this well.. they have some plain or simple striped silk and then a feature texture/layered one.
checked out the site - http://store.laura-ashley.com.au/home.php?cat=290
they have natural and truffle cushions all very blah blah blah... until you get to the varley natural at the bottom.. it is a lil more special (and priced accordingly).. i also think these types of things are doing well http://store.laura-ashley.com.au/product.php?productid=7061304&cat=288&page=1
As are pleats and folds.. lots of texture for not alot more cost. I also like the country road thicker textured cushions as they add depth to our more untextured fabric sofas these days.
If you are creating them for a shop I would focus on the higher priced speciality style as the margin would be better.

Totally agree with texture is very popular. The pleats and the rose petal designs are gorgeous. Also small cushions with sequins in black- I do love a little bling:)

I was looking for hi contrast B&W cushions yesterday - for me, texture was more important than pattern.
I didn't have much luck, but then I didn't look far and budget was a very big factor. I ended up settling for a couple at Spotlight with their 20% off sale, but I only found two I like, and therefore am still looking for the other two.
In the past I have bought cushions from Aunty Cookie on etsy ( cover only ) in her Ampersand design, and I was looking for something complimetary
Aunty Cookie cushions I own: http://bit.ly/d8jj1n
and the ones I bought yesterday: http://www.e-buy.net.au/images/thumb_hula%20cushion.jpg in black.
( pic looks pretty disgusting really, much nicer in real life )

ooh Lanne - I love those rosalina raspberry cushions - gorgeous! Not a price I can justify at the moment though :)

If you have ANY sewing skills at all they could be easily made.. seriously simple if you spend 5 mins looking at them.
I bought some in kmart (of all places!) the other day which are basically ribbon.. stitched down the middle and folded over.. and repeated .. it made awesome stripes..with texture.. (another thing to photograph).. but very cool and simple... you could easily find some ribbon and do the same with even the most basic of sewing skills
This store on etsy - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=36541116 has some gorgous cushions it is beautiful felt (not the craft stuff).. and she customises for you. I ordered this cushion which originally came in oatmeal and red bird in the grey you see here and a yellow bird.. it matches some wall decals of birch trees we have had done for the media room.. it is perfection.. great one off piece

But there is my problem Lanne- no sewing skills at all:(.
But with2ns has a super industrial sewing machine and can whizz up anything.
How much do the rose cushions normally sell for?

I love cushions that have different uses for each side, similar to what Lanne mentioned...having a plaine and a pattern or texture in the same colour way or similar look.
If there was a cushion that had that look on either side so you can turn it around depending on how you feel for the day.
Another good idea is to use fabrics form upholstery suppliers so people can buy cushions based on highlight fabrics that they might use on their sofas/ottomans/pelmets.
I think another good idea is to have plain matching cushions in different shapes and sizes.
Love everyones ideas so far.

Hi Daphadills
So for you something that is in reds & oranges, maybe some browns to work with your art but a little rustic style?
Would that be perfect?
I am sure with2n's came whip that up lol:D

Oh but it must have white cause once the walls are white, well i think i will need some more YK.
Yes I want something that will work with my water painting indeed, and my shell collection (but then they are hopefully moving into intended sunroom)
Something of tropical flowers? but modern not something my olds would have LOL.... Gosh i have NO idea.......PMSL

I'm sure that makes perfect sense to with2ns.
I wouldn't worry about the shells as they will look great in your new sunroom.
So material with white, some reds and maybe some browns in it.
As for style what about a modern take on a traditional print? For instance my new quilt cover is going to be a modern version of a rose print. Or simple stripes?

This is such a great thread, very useful for me figuring out what to put in my shop, too! (I'm on Etsy)
I particularly like that lots of people are talking texture, it's one of my favourite things too.:)

I have recently bought a white sofa that desperately needs some gorgeous cushions. I cannot find any anywhere that I like.
I am looking for dark brown with maybe a lighter pattern, a red with 'fluff of some sort!! Ideally that need to also be comfy enough to use for an afternoon nap on the couch - you know that perfect 'fall asleep' kind of afternoon but with a comfy pillow under your head.
Good luck and I look forward to hearing where you are distributing!
Jules:)

I know exactly what you mean but mine are perfect for that falling asleep at the end of the day nap:D.

Thanks everyone for your ideas! Seems like browns and textures are popular, as are ones that have a touch of colour.
I love that everyone is looking for something a little bit different. I'll see what I can come up with.

I have been looking for chocolate brown and duck egg blue for my bedroom, but have only found it overseas, unless I am willing to pay more than $50. I love the flock patterns as well as faux fur for texture. Of course, not on the same cushion:D
