What are the easiest plants to grow inside the house?
I love to use plants and flowers in most of my rooms. I believe they bring life into a room and are a great finishing touch.
I have a light green thumb in the garden outside but I do struggle to keep indoor plants alive and healthy.I find the air con and heating don't help.
Any suggestions on fail proof plants and flowers to use inside?

I dont buy fresh flowers anymore. i always buy orchids. They last for months and only cost about $25 from Bunnings

Great thread, I'm awful with indoor plants (actually, all plants).
Apparently it is a lot easier to grow indoor plants in Sydney than it is in Perth (due to the humidity).
I'll be watching this one for some tips!

I have had more luck with Peace lillies, and there is a larger leafed one called Sensation. and Devils Ivy

I've read that mother in laws tongue is a plant that doesn't need much light and is really tough. It is kind of spiky looking so not everyone likes it.

I've used Dracenas before. They come in different colours and sizes.
I also have Kentia palms and they have survived a couple of years now.

I have been playing around with using greenery in the house.I love plants and flowers in a room- I think it makes such a difference.
Picture 1 is on our family room coffee table. It is a real orchid that I have had for about a month. At first I used real moss around the edge but the moss needed more water than the orchid, so it died. Then I found this fake moss & voila.
Picture 2 is a vase that sits on the Singer sewing machine near the kitchen & that is Chinese Star Jasmine, which my walls outside are covered in.
Picture 3 is a new vase on my hallway table. They are not real but you can open and close the petals which I like.
I'm no florist but what do you think?:D

Love your flowers, they look great! Also love the idea of buying a real orchid because artificial ones are so expensive. I love having real lillies (cut flowers) with their exquisite fragrance. When I have them I feel like Im in a classy hotel!

The chinese star jasmine has not done well in the vase - it only lasted a few days. I have used Lilly pilly before and it lasted weeks. But if it is not raining tomorrow I will try Pandorea creeper for something different.

Oh dear, with this 42.9c heat even my inside plants look unhappy. And what hasn't withered in the heat the dog seems to like chewing on:mad:.
I would love to find a plant that took the heat and the dog didn't like to eat.
Any suggestions?

I have been spending more money on fake plants (just a succulant for the kitchen and ensuite and an orchid for the bathroom).. Because they can be faked pretty well... spending a bit more to get a real looking one has worked well. I always HATED the fake flowers my mother had but no one was buying the story of the silk rose LOL
I think a GOOD fake works well. I also buy fresh flowers from the markets each week. Less then $10 and they like the air con :)

You have inspired me Lanne to go to my fabourite silk plant shop. I'm going past later this week. I think I will replace my begonia which is looking fried by this heat. I will also look at replacing the two Peace lillies. I wonder if the dog will like the taste of silk?:) But my orchid is still coping and like you I do like some real plants. I replaced the palms and weeping figs with silk versions a couple of years ago
