What window treatment to choose can be very confusing!
The amount of light you want in the room, the need to prevent fading of furnishings and floors, how they will affect the heating and cooling of the room, do you have a view that you want to maximize or do you need to provide more privacy? And, of course, your style and budget will be deciding factors.
Below are some suggestions on what window treatment works best for each room:

Living Rooms.
A simple, minimalist style suits living areas of today.
Coloured sheers with separate lining on a track behind. Or sheers with timber blinds work well to maintain privacy but to allow light in. White horizontal blinds look great with white shimmering sheers in front of them.
Gliding panels work very well for sliding glass doors, as do Luxaflex Luminette Blinds.

Bedrooms.
In a bedroom you want to have privacy but light during the day, with being able to completely block out the early morning sun.
Coloured sheers with separate lining on a track behind will also look wonderful here. Or the more traditional style of sheers behind drapes can be used. Keep the style simple as valances and swags are out of style. If you want a pelmet, then install a square edged upholstered pelmet. There are rods designed today so when you pull your drapes back only the rod shows, not an unattractive track.

Kitchens.
You need to be practical in the kitchen.
Timber or faux timber blinds work well in a kitchen, as they are very easy to clean.
Try to avoid using fabric blinds or curtains, as they are not so easy to clean.

Bathrooms.
Again you need to practical with your choice for the bathroom.
Horizontal blinds will provide privacy but light in the bathroom. But you need to use faux timber as the moisture in the bathroom will affect timber blinds.
Plantation shutters look stunning in a bathroom setting.
