Help we have mice:eek:. Every night mice are getting into the kitchen. I find their droppings all over the kitchen in the mornings. It is so revolting. We have tried mouse traps but they seem to clever for those. does anyone know how to get rid of them?

We just buy really cheap mouse traps, glue a bit of dried biscuit to the little food platform using super glue and then lightly cover the biscuit and the food platform in smooth peanut butter. Set the trap so it's super sensitive and when you catch the little rascal just throw the while thing out. Works every time for us.

When we had a mouse problem we called in the professionals and they said that the key to the traps was not to let them get a hint of your scent on them as mice are neophobic. We were told to handle all bait/traps with gloved hands. The guy also told us that mice often get in from under the oven (which was the case with our house) as many gas oven installers don't properly seal the hole around the pipes leading from under the house to the oven.

We have mice every year, they come around March usually and last for most of winter. Since we live on a farm and have a lot of grain etc around us there is not much hope of getting rid of them permanently. My best advice is get the plastic grey traps , you can buy these most supermarkets and slather the peanut butter on. This will work well but I have also used the bait packets, the bad side to this is they go away to die and don't always make it outside. We can get as many as 9 mice a day at peak time but the absolute best thing is to get a cat or two in our case. Our cat is so good that we have friends wanting us to hire her out! In my pantry I have almost everything in plastic containers and this saves a lot of cleaning up and throwing away food. Good luck!!

We moved into our new home 12 months ago and had vacant land all around us. We had mice eating through stuff in the Pantry everynight. Now I am the queen of Tupperware so nothing open was out in it's packaging but the mice were eating the lids of my tupperware containers

We tried rat sack and a few other poisons as well as many many traps. Never caught any. We ended up getting a professional in, he put boxes with a round ball thing in them everywhere. Apparently the mouse chews on the ball thing, gets hydrated, leaves the house to search for water and never comes back. Cost us $200 for 12 months and we haven't seen or heard one since. Worth the $$ especially when you 6'6" husband is scared of mice and retreated to the bedroom everynight to watch telly :D

I would love to know the name of the tennis ball thing and see if I could get hold of one. He could make a fortune in our area!. Mice will eat almost anything , they have eaten the vinyl and foam on our ride-on lawn mower seat but I have been told they will not eat steel wool ,so we use this to block up any obvious holes where they may be entering. We always holiday in April as do our friends, this is the start of our mice season, so my friends and I do mice checks on each others houses . There is nothing worse than coming home from a lovely holiday and seeing mice poop everywhere and they smell terrible!

Can someone please tell me more about the professionals?

We had a mouse 2 houses ago.. didnt know i was SO scared of them. I locked myself in our room.. shoved towels under the door..packed what i needed and moved out.

The irony was that they were living in my walk in robe and i had barricaded myself in with them LOL.

3 days at Mum's ..no mice caught .. 43 traps and we had to move home. ugh
I kept saying.. there must be a man you can call.

So .. pleeeease let me know.. what is this professional.. and can anyone recommend someone. Next time I am off to a hotel and calling the professionals LOL.

oh Lanne how awful! I am not too bad if I see them running past me but I'd totally freak out if I was locked in the same room as them!

Dixiemum is right, steel wool is great. We stuffed it into every nook and cranny we could fine (don't forget behind your oven if you can reach).

We trapped one in the cupboard under our stairs and it ate through the plaster to get out. It also shredded up some brown wrapping paper and made a nest with it in the middle of some left over carpet that was rolled up in there. I would have died if it had of had babies in there :eek:

As for the professionals, I just rang around our local pest control guys from the yellow pages. Picked one that seemed to know the most about mice and one whose baits wouldn't harm my children or any other that came over to play. Also make sure that they give a good guarantee ;) We paid $200 for 12 months.
