Wouldn’t it be lovely to have one of those luxury resort style bathrooms you see in pictures? To be able to soak your tired old body in a deep bath whilst you look out at a tropical courtyard:D. Bathrooms are one of the most popular rooms to renovate. So here are a few tips:

1. Budget
I know it is boring to have to budget but bathrooms can very reasonable or very expensive to renovate. Know your budget and try to stick to it.

2. Plumbing
When planning your renovation try not to move the plumbing in the bathroom. This can be a major expense, especially if you have a cement slab. They don’t say plumbers must all drive Rolls Royces for nothing:D.

3. Theme
Often I find clients are drawn to either round or square shapes. If that is you consider having that shape flow through the room. So you could have squarish basins, toilet, shower rose, the backs of the towel rails. You get the picture.

4. Lighting
Good lighting over the vanity is crucial for shaving and applying makeup. Many people like the halogens above the mirror. Personally, I think you get much better lighting when using wall lights next to the mirror. Don’t forget to add a dimmer switch or a separate light for mood lighting.

5. Space
To create space I would suggest a few things. Have your shower floor level with the bathroom floor so it just flows. If your builder won’t allow that have the shower floor a little lower. Use large tiles it will make the room look bigger than small tiles. Use mirrors to create space and to bounce light around if the room is a little dark.

6. Tiles
To create a luxury feel tile to the ceiling. It costs very little extra and makes a huge difference.

7. Trends
At the moment walk in showers that don’t have a door or a curtain are very popular. They do take up a larger amount of space though. Large rainwater shower roses are popular. But I would suggest you have a hand held shower rose on a pole as well, for the days you don’t want to wet your hair. Deep but shorter baths that are free standing look gorgeous. And finally wall hung toilets look good and make it easier to clean the floors.

I would love to hear your thoughts and bathroom renovating stories or dreams.

I would love this bathroom by Axor and the view as well:D
