So, you didn't make it onto 'From the ground up'? Missed out on 'The Block'? Weren't successful with your application for 'The Renovators'?

Well, never fear, Channel Nine is here, with another reality show for interior designers and home renovators.

Look here (http://channelnine.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8195173) for more information, and to apply.

Go on, do it, you know you want to!!!!!

Great 2 c u posting DMplus3........

I have seen the US version on pay tv it is pretty good. Apparently in Aussie version Jamie Durie is going to be host.......

Anyone up for it? Not me don't have designer aspirations....feel if I was under pressure to perform it would take the fun away....although having to not spend one's own funds is appealing and I think allows you to be more creative....

I think I am going to submit an application  What do you guys think?
Its going to be very hard to be away from my family for 7 weeks and I am putting my name on the line. That's all for the scary bits. husband simply said go for it! We will work it out........we don't have much extended family for Mr3 to rely on and my heart will break being away from him.:( ,thoughts???
Now please talk me out of it before tomorrow evening when I fill out the application.

Go for it...............maybe being in Perth Aunty J-A will watch Mr 3 (;)) I would take him on.....I mean what's another 3 yr old super hero in the whole scheme of things....but alas I am in Melbourne.....

I would do anything to live this Top Design experience vicariously through you LOL....

I am sure that they would allow you to talk with your family.....video calls...skype.... would be tough but sometimes you need to ......Just do it and somehow things have to just fall into place....

fingers crossed:thumbs up:

Err what about the being filmed "clothed or partially clothed"?

Elements
14-01-2011, 05:05 PM
clp, are you thinking of going in? I did read that and thought.....I think thats just to cover them if they happen to catch you while in bed or getting dressed:eek:
I wouldn't get caught, I am too much of a prude.....I always hide in the cubicles when getting changed at the local pool...some girls get dressed in full eye view, thats just not me.;)
I like some of their clauses...they made me laugh......

OMGosh did you apply Elements?
I am just catching up on this thread. Yes I would happily look after Mr3 some of the time. He is a real sweety. Mr17 and I thought he was as cute as a button:kiss:.
I think you definitely have the talent to do it. I personally though would never do a reality show. They look exhausting:(.

Julie-Ann, the day after I decided, I got cold feet and as the days have progressed and I have seen it advertised more I am starting to do the "what the heck" its only an application and who knows it may just be a great break in transmission.;)
The application form however is 15 pages long:eek: and I keep having to have a break in between so I hope I get the application in on time.:D

Julie-Ann
24-01-2011, 07:00 AM
My goodness - 15 pages:eek:. Do they want to know your life story???:D
Good luck Elements.

Elements

I just actually pressed send on my extremely long and time consuming application form.
Ok breathe.......its just an application, its just some forms......I don't have to say yes yet I haven't even got a call, I have only just submitted it.......Breathe Breathe......Why so nervous, I have no idea;)
Who am I talking to.....I don't know, just talking aloud........OMG....OMG.
Ok I am relaxed now........

We hear you when you think you are talking to no-one......feel the fear and do it anyway....... No pain no gain.....and all the pepp talk jargon that is supposed to convince you to do it when (not if) they call......

Elements

Ok, I have an email back saying.....

Thanks so much for sending through your application for TOP DESIGN!
I’ve passed it onto the show’s Executive Producers who will be going through all the applications over the next few weeks.
So we will contact you if your application is successful for the next stage of the process.

Who knows what will come from that but I have to say I watched some little snipets online yesterday about the American version:eek: Um I am thinking its way out of my league. Did you see Eddie Ross (http://www.eddieross.com/) was on there and didn't make it to the end.
They talk about the style of different designers which was interesting as some I know but some I really don't.
I think as I love bits and pieces from so many styles, that I don't hold onto the stylist names but just the images that I love.

Anyway thats the update:eek::D I am still heart in mouth about it all. Natural, um I don't know.

Oooh, it's all getting a bit real, isn't it!?

I'm not big on remembering the names of people who's work I like (in any type of industry), my brain just doesn't work like that. I am very eclectic, like you, so it is hard to narrow down a particular designer or even style that I like.

And you know what? When it comes to 'reality TV', you have to wonder how much preparation people have done to look 'real' before the cameras start rolling...

Julie-Ann
10-02-2011, 09:28 AM
Eek it's getting closer.. Eddie has good taste most of the time but he doesn't have your warm personality. And personality also counts in those shows.

Elements
17-02-2011, 12:56 PM
J-A,
I never saw this reply......Thanks so much for saying that ;)
Will see if personality gets me through next week when I go for my audition. FREAKING OUT  next week
My apologies that I haven't been in to see what everyone is up to but.....
I have to get a design together to take to the audition so I am trying to get my best mind happening..... and taking every oppertunity to get my stuff together.
Isn't the forum abuzz with auditions at the moment....:D
Fingers Crossed.;)

NEXT WEEK!!!:eek::eek:
Sorry I am sure as a good friend I am meant to be calm and reassuring but OMGosh - next week:eek:.
I gave Mr17 some relaxation tablets when he was doing his exams. They stop the jitters. Would you like some for the next week? I must confess I took when Mr17 was doing his exams so I can tell you they really do help. They are legal and from the health store - just in case you were wondering:D.
You will be brilliant Elements:thumbs up:

Well I didn't like Eddie at all! (just finished that season on our tv's here). He was soooo up himself! lol

You don't seem to me to be up yourself like him, so I'm sure you'll be fabulous!

GOOD LUCK! I have my fingers and toes crossed for you xxx

Elements
17-02-2011, 02:51 PM
Thanks girls, Urban girl....your right he was up himself but its that confidence I need to make it through i think.
Anywhoooo, um yes please calming tablets would be a great way to be confident even when I am (excuse me) but packing myself.
Actually its more the planner I have to do that is making me nervous:eek:.........
Careful with crossing your toes Urban Girl you can sometimes get cramps doing that:D

Urban Girl
17-02-2011, 03:04 PM
There's confidence, then there's ****iness, he was far too ****y for my liking. Especially the episode where he was having it out with the owner of a store "I work for Martha Stewart, I only work for the best, do you know who I am".....really?!

Dunno if you have it over there, but there is natural medicine we have here called "rescue remedy". It's in liquid form and you put a few drops on your tongue and it calms nerves. Works a treat :)

lol about the toes. Will take note of that.

Elements
17-02-2011, 03:16 PM
Your right he was that word that rhymes with chocky;);):D

.....lucky or unlucky for me all I saw of the show was little highlights from each show that I could watch online.....so not even 3 or 4 minutes:rolleyes:
But I got the general jist of the show which was some bits tacky (oh god I hope I don't get on and then look tacky) but anyway it was tacky in some parts and in others where I saw Eddie it was classy.....but yes there was chockyness with that.

I am serious about the toes....never cross them in bed or the cramps will start.;)

rosierose
17-02-2011, 03:37 PM
Well phew I didn't cross my toes........thanks for the heads up or is it the feets down - yep I am funny - ok maybe not as funny as you Kristie that's why u r going to ace the audition.....

Julie-Ann
17-02-2011, 09:08 PM
Oh you are so funny K. (She is this hilarious in person everyone:D). Ok I'm bringing the relaxation tablets when we meet next. They work just like the Rescue Remedy.
There is not a teensy bit of arrogance about you. If you get in to the show the audience will love you as much as those of us who know you.

Any news????!!!

Elements
28-02-2011, 08:29 AM
Hi All

Phew, I am glad that is over.;)
I got there at 1.15pm and met with about 11 other people, all gorgeous other designers from all walks of life.
There were landscape designers, indutrial designers, people who have nothing to do with design daily but have a flair for it and a couple of aspiring TV personalities.
We started with a group interview and that went for 20 minutes.....and then we were told to all wait outside and see if the producers want us to go back in and chat....and do our presentations on our studio apartments or 10mx10m space.
Well, we all got asked to go back in:eek: and that meant presenting our apartments and describing how we got to that design.
One of the producers sat with us outside and we asked him every question we could think of....I was second last which meant it was nearly 6pm before I went in.
So many different personalities but some stood out more than others. You could pick the ones who will probably get a look in and the ones who wouldn't.
The producer we asked lots of questions to mentioned if we didn't hear anything from anyone within 2-3 weeks assume we are not on.
For me when I finished my interview they mentioned I would hear something in 3-4 so I am taking that as a big no. Not that I mind. 7 weeks away from my boys could possibly be way to tough on the emotions.;)
Thinking about it now the questions that one of the design type guys was asking me was a baiting type design question that I didn't know but pretended to......I think that was my downfall.....I didn't scale my apartment as thats not how I work and he asked why I didn't do it....that sent me into a tail spin and I lost all confidence then and there.
Anywhoo......I am glad I did it but I don't think I will put myself through anything like it again. It certainly knocks the wind out of your sails a little but I think that's the part where you have to get back up and regroup and start fresh....I am feeling better already that its an achievement that nearly saw me email Friday and pull out because of nerves.
Thanks for all your support everyone.
;)

I would have been going crazy having to wait around that long. You should be very proud of yourself for going through with it:thumbs up:. You are a great designer- your clients love your work- and at the end of the day the paying customer counts.
And can I confess that I said to DH yesterday "I know it is totally selfish but a little part of me hoped you wouldn't get in- I would really miss you not being around during those 7 weeks:(". There rest of me was hoping you would get in if that's what you wanted.:)

Your very kind.
I really do think by the end of the Saturday night it was more about me going through with it rather than getting into it....if you know what I mean.
Hopefully anyone else out there thinking of doing it are not deterred by my experience as I can vouch for it being a really great show and it has already been picked up by channel 9 so its definitely airing.;)
Glad to be sticking around;):D

I'm so glad you went through with the audition, K, even if you don't think you'll be successful.

Just think, if you don't get in, how much your business will grow and succeed in that seven week period.

Congratulations on getting this far!
