Hi Fiona
Earlier today I spoke to a friend Daniel who works at Rick Hart in O'Connor, WA.
He recommended the Electrolux you mentioned or the Miele (they do make great products at Miele.)
He said the Electrolux is made in Europe and is excellent quality. It is strong and durable, plus it has great suction.
Both of these use bags to collect the dust.
$899 is expensive but it sounds like it is worth it.

I do still love my little robot Roomba:) but it doesn't replace your vacuum it just means you have to use it less

Hi Fiona

Dont know if you have tried a DYSON. I have been using one of the upright models for about six years. I was totally converted after I borrowed a friend's when my old cleaner died!!

I was very shocked at how much dust came out of what I thought was a "clean" carpet. Why dont you ask around some of your friends or neighbours to see if one of them has a Dyson that you could have a try out in your own home.

I think if I was going to have to buy a new one now I would now look at the cylinder style ones as my house is on two levels and they are easier to lift and carry around.

Godfrey's, Myer and Harvey Norman all have a selection.

A good thing is to find out the name of company where repairs under warranty go and ask them which models do they see the most /least of.
