Have you seen any articles yet on the Decorating Trends for 2010?
I was reading the Sunday paper, starting with the Homes section as usual – the actual news is too depressing and boring:). And I read this very interesting article on Decorating Trends for 2010. The article was tiltled -
“Show Your True Colours” in the Sunday Times, Perth and was by Lisa Amphlett
I don’t know if it appeared in your Eastern States papers.

So these are the trends that were predicted by the professionals in various fields that Lisa interviewed.

Wallpaper will increase in popularity, especially 3d designs, retro patterns and where you can have your own picture made into wallpaper (I like that idea).

Floors. Firstly carpets will see an increased use of patterns that have been inspired by vintage designs in soft, tonal shades (I can’t see my using this idea, in a rug yes but not for carpet).
Rugs will also have a lot of pattern. Expect to see Missoni style patterns, colourful stripes & geometrics.

Furniture will see a greater use of wood finishes being used, especially Scandinavian style & beech tones. The furniture will also have softer edges. They are also predicting more colour to be used in furniture pieces (This would be interesting and unusual to see).

Outdoor furniture will be minimalistic with woven materials increasing in popularity.

Appliances they are predicting that Black is the new Black (but then we already knew that on the Decorating Forum:D)

Paint was discussed with Bauwerk paints who see dark & smoky blues and also pale blues. In addition moody, dirty and light mauves.

I would add these observations to the article.

Pantone (an American company famous for predicting colour trends) says Turquoise is the colour for 2010.
However, Dulux and many others I have read would agree with Bauwerk Paints that blues and purples will be more popular. I have read many times all shades of Purple are the colour for 2010. There is also a growing trend to use greys as neutral colours.

Specialising in Bathrooms I would also add expect to see more 3d tiles and surprisingly more rustic, earthy tiles.

So what do you think?

Would you use any of these in your home?
Can you add to the list of Decorating Trends for 2010?

Well all I can say is I think the wallpaper thing might be right...I came across this yesterday! (http://www.craveinteriors.com.au)Some stunning stuff there.
And I offer the picture into wallpaper for my clients- I must say though it only works well for certain types of photos and certain types of rooms...and combinations there of!

Purple- my all time fave colour! And I like the idea of furniture having softer edges...I like curves and smooth lines.

Interesting list.

I think we will see a continuation of the folksy elements (pears, birds and russian dolls.. at least for another 6 months.

The wallpaper (bold prints, metallics and own photos) will be big this year I think. Back to wall paper feature walls! ..Like Maree, quite a few of my clients are having their images done as photos this year.

I think the woven outdoor furniture is on the money.. as it is the aqua hues. Grey is the new neutral (lucky for me!) and yellow will fade this year (sad for me). - however i have shopped for both grey and yellow soooooo much i must be done. surely.

I think texture will continue to be BIG.. as will industrial chic.. science lab vs warmth.. think metal trolleys and warm wood tones. Particularly in kitchens, bathrooms and cafes.

I heard that black and white will be reappearing, do you think this will be the case?

I am loving the fact they predicted bright colors, there was some really nice stuff in that list.

I thought you guys would like to see the article, Lisa sent it over to me. At least any one outside of WA can see what we are talking about.

I may have to do it bit by bit because of the size.

Thanks for the pictures Pauline. It was a great article. Very comprehensive. And of course they featured specialists in their field - one being you:D. Kanvas Art was featured in the article. To check out their products here is a link (http://www.decoratingforum.com.au/showthread.php/create-your-own-96.html) to an article I did on them last year.
Love your products Pauline and congratulations for being featured in the article:).
And to answer your earlier questions. I have heard of black more being used for appliances but one popular style is meant to be with white kitchens. Personally I always think black & white is in - they look so great together or with other colours.
The big colour story in Australia is purples and also blues. But I would love to see the turquoise as it is one of my favourite colours.
Perhaps I need to redecorate:D

In the art world apparently dogs are the new cats:eek::D
Although I think people who like any animal decor would like it regardless.
Yes purple is still big, the hollywood glam look is still happening with charcoals instead of strong blacks.
Round sofas are coming back and elements in furniture is getting bigger.....
Wooden shelves on sofas and mixing leather/fabric and wood in the one design.
Metal art and wall hangings are still big but the older style prints are coming back.....urns, nudes, and photographic images of European buildings etc.
Luggage as furniture is also popular...old trunks and leather panels on furniture.
I love that so many of the trends are staying from the last couple of years which shows we are all still heading in the right direction.

Great tips everyone! In the world of window furnishings, here are a few hot trends for 2010:

- white, white, white: the minimalist theme continues. 25mm Aluminium Venetian Blinds are top of the list.
- earthy, natural looks of Western Red Cedar Blinds and Basswood Timber Blinds.
- Ecowood Venetian Blinds give people the same look and feel as timber and cedar blinds, but they are made of environmentally friendly Foamwood, which is not only eco-friendly, it's more durable than real wood and can be used in areas subject to moisture like kitchens and bathrooms.
- Staying on the environmentally friendly trend, Honeycomb Blinds - also known as Cellular Shades - are big because they not only suit the contemporary styles currently in vogue, but they are the most insulating window coverings available, so they help reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Hope that provides some insights for you all. 2010 is looking like a great year for the interior decorating industry...lots of fun stuff happening.
