Are you putting up your Christmas decorations and your tree this weekend? Or are you waiting until next weekend?

Ours is going up on Friday, straight after school finishes.

Lorraine - is yours already up?

Julie-Ann

We have half started putting the decorations up. But now I see where I want something new so it's not finished. Then DH decided he wanted a fibre optic tree so we have spent all afternoon looking for one with no success.

Does anyone know where you can buy a 5ft fibre optic tree, that's bushy and not really cheap bristles, and no baubles, bows or berries added?

Although mine should already be up by now , I think we have time to put it up today thanks to the rain and no cricket for the weekend :(

Just cant seem to get into christmas this year, we might have a lot of changes about to take place so we will know this week if it happens or not.

I love christmas so I must shake this mood of mine and get into the spirit of things :clapping:

I am so looking forward to getting our tree up!

I don't know if we will have time this week. Hoping maybe Friday night as it will be my birthday and we'll all be home. Might go out for an early dinner and then come home for Cake and Tree time :thumbs up:

I found my mod podge so will finish my Merry Christmas letters this week, I think I am more excited about Christmas this year than my kids. I love my house looking Festive, got my Rag Wreaths out ready to go on the front doors. Will do this Wednesday morning :D

I hope all the changes are the positive and come your way MrsB.
I think once you get the decorations out it helps to get into the Christmas spirit.
Either that or pop over and visit Tryingtodecorate- she definitely sounds in the mood for Christmas:D.

Julie-Ann

Well at least you are organised Giggle_Smile. And maybe when the house is listed and the pictures have been done you fill more like it. My hubby has dragged me through every Christmas shop around looking for the perfect tree so I am well and truly in the spirit:D.

I'm a bit Meh about Christmas this year as well.

Hopefully putting the tree up will help get me more in the mood.

My MIL and Uncle in Law are arriving for a 5 day visit on Wednesday, so we are hopeing they will be able to join us in a bit of tree decorating.

Just put up the tree and it looks great - stocked up on some new baubles at Myer (red and green with white and silver accents) which have replaced some of the ancient ones. I have the decorations from my childhood tree so I get very sentimental putting it up.

I gave up on the pre-lit or fibre optic tree and just bought a beautiful bushy 6ft tree from Myers. And it is hinged to make it easy to pack away.
Can you get to a Myers Yvette? I liked their trees best of all. And trust me I have seen wayyy to many trees lately:rolleyes:.

Just got back from VIP night at Adairs............was really just a family and friends thing and I have a friend that works there. We even got a showbag with two white pillowcases, a huge bottle of MERCER & REID fabric softener and some soap and chocolates....Love a goodie bag......and some free champers and nibbles..
But I my point was supposed to be that I got a cute little tree to decorate for 30% off (so $20) and we should be decorating it tomorrow all being well (Mr 5 not great tonight - mumee leaves house and see what happens Grrr)
Will post pics soon of the tree....

Thank you everyone!

rosierose - The reindeer are from a garden store called Eden Gardens, here in Brisbane. I think there are some interstate, but can't be sure. I missed your post RE: Mr5. I hope the remainder of the week was better.

The NOEL blocks you can get pretty much everywhere. Usually we have HOME in that spot.

Dmplus3 thanks for asking about Mr5, his health is very fragile but at the moment he is stable.....*Sigh*

We don't have that gardening place in Vic as far as I know (and I know shopping) but may check out some gardening stores.

I have a few reindeers myself. Will post my reindeers once I take a picture but I have attached my tree..This little fella is the one I bought last week from Adairs and instead of my glass ornaments I dug up these tin reindeers and trees as well as these cute reindeer pegs from my christmas box.. It is Mr almost 3 proof......

I love that little tree Rosierose. Love the pegs! Gold looks lovely Julie-Ann

And here is ours. My girls assembled it last Sunday, I put on the lights (yes I am the Christmas Tree Light Police) and then all 4 kids decorated it. I am so proud of them, after living with the Christmas Tree Police all their lives they have done me proud :D I only moved 5 decorations after they went to bed. Been sitting on the couch tonight watching the lights twinkle, so pretty :love it:

I got the branch on my morning walk...well I put it aside and went back in the car but sprayed it and then put it into place ready for our Christmas soirees over the next 2 weeks.
Its still a little light on in the decoration department but I didn't want to over do it, so I underdid;) it.
I am hoping to make up some pom poms to hang around also.....we will see how time lucky I become.

I peaked a bit early and the tree has faded into the background a little so hence my focus on Alfresco Christmas;)

Hi Miss S- lovely to see you. Your trees look gorgeous. I especially love the silver tree on the mirrored table. Can I ask where you bought that from? It's very unusual but striking.
Lol- yes I agree with Rosierose- it's very adventurous of you to use some red:D. But it really makes that tree pop:love it:

Hi,

Sorry its been a bit manic the past couple of weeks and I havent had time to pop online! Depressing!

Thanks for the compliments... Its my first real christmas tree since living in our new place, so had to make it a good one! I think i have kept the economy of MYER going with my purchases, ha ha!

The silver tree is from Target - I know, unbelieveable right! It was only $40 too! BARGAIN! I got 3 of them, one for me, one for my sister and one for my mum.. I think the shop assistant thought i was tree happy!

I was a little suprised with the red baubals too. but i think a touch of colour "gulp" was just what that corner needed with the mirrored table etc, otherwise too much silver.... :D

Julie-Ann

Hi Everyone! A very Merry Christmas to you all! I have had the busiest past 3 weeks and I really haven't had much of a chance to post here. I finally 'almost' finished putting up the decorations, then had to wrap many presents, organise tables and seating for 18 people, AND try and clean the house!!

Here is how it all turned out (except for the front doors, that's last years photo because this year the ribbon has faded and it doesn't look nearly as good!):

My take on bon bons! I didn't want to spend $50 on crackers that just get thrown in the bin, so I made some yummy treats, wrapped them in celophane bags, tied up with their names and included a rolled up bad Christmas joke!

Thanks Elements! I think the trick is the type of ribbon. I was going to do a thread in the DIY section of how to do it, but I completely ran out of time with everything else I had to do! The bow isn't actually tied, but just formed with the ribbon (to make it look neat!) and held together with staples! Next year I think I'll make it a bit bigger too...

[Thanks dmplus3! You can thank the person in the same suburb as me who gave me the initial inspiration! I'd love to see a photo if you have one? What ribbon did you end up using?[/QUOTE]

Unfortunately I had to use thick red bias binding (I'm pretty sure that's what it was). It had a glossy look, rather than the velvety look that I was aiming for, but Mum's door is a heritage green colour, so it worked quite well. I can never find what I want when I know what I'm looking for, but I'm sure if I had just wandered in randomly I would have seen it in a second!

Where did you get your ribbon from? I'll see if I can take a photo, if Mumsy hasn't taken it down already!!

stormy
28-12-2010, 05:28 AM
I bought my ribbon from a wholesale place that sells direct to the public. It's a wide velvet wire edged ribbon (to keep the shape of the bow!). It's actually not very heavy either, so it was easy to use and it stayed in place really well!
