I am planning in doing a Diploma in Interior Design but as enrolments for this year have closed I need to wait to enrol for next year. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any other activities that I could do this year in preparation with studying next year. Are there any small courses people know of or anything else I could do. I am living in Melbourne.

Hi Milena
A friend on Twitter mentioned that many TAFE courses in Melbourne will enroll you mid year, which might be something to look at.
Our TAFE here also does short 1 semester courses which are aimed more at people decorating their own homes but it is a starting point.
We also have a place called HomeBase where lots of business involved in building & renovating have displays. People go there to get ideas for their homes. But they also run courses - one of them being on Interior Design.
I don't know if you have a similar place. They always advertise their courses in our Home magazine that is in the Sunday paper.
I hope this is a starting point for you:).

Hi Milena,

I don't know where you're intending to eventually enrol but I believe that RMIT offers short courses in Interior Design as a preparation for those intending to enrol in the Bachelor course later on.

Even though you're thinking of doing a Diploma course it would be worth popping into the info/resource centre of RMIT on the corner of Swanston & Latrobe sts Melb. - I found them very helpful when my son needed info.

Also another thought - when I did my ID course at RMIT (many moons ago) they offered ID as a part time course too - that's how I began, by doing 3 nights a week while working part time. I don't know if it's still available but it's also worth looking into.

Otherwise there are shortcourses offered by various Tafes on decorating or design or related fields.

Hope this helps a bit.

cia,
Elena:)

Hi Julie-Ann and Elena,

Thank you for the great suggestions. I didn't know RMIT had these courses and I will try and find out more information from them about what they offer.
If TAFE offers a short course during the year I think that would be great so I will find out if they offer anything here.

Your suggestions really helped me to point me in the right direction.
