What style of decor would you label your home? It can be a blend of styles as mine is.
Did you choose to have this style because it is what you love or because it is what suits the house you are in?

My style Julie-Ann, I have decided is based mostly on colour scheme......
I love black, green and white with taupe's to soften....generally within that colour range I choose classic Asian pieces or textured woods and some floral s to match......;)
Sav your funny, We ask about style and your thinking ovens.....were you in the kitchen when you answered:D I do that too.....:D;)

I would say our decorating style is mostly traditional but more classical elegant than shabby chic. There are lots of French touches and slowly more Hampton's style elements being added. There are contemporary items added here and there and especially in Mr17's living area.
Even though our decor style matches our home- because we built the home it was a case of the home matching our decorating style.
Cath Mr17 is coming up for air occasionally during the PS3 marathon:D

My house is contemporary minimalist.
After squished living in squashy premises for a number of years, I was sooo tired of having clutter everywhere. Now that we're in our lovely new home, we have space to put things away and it's so much easier to keep tidy. I love it!
We are badly in need of new furniture and I hate the drapes in here, especially in my office where people come to view the wallpaper books -- but you know what it's like when you move house -- every spare penny goes into stamp duty, insurance, moving house, and then the mortgage itself!
I can't wait until I can afford to start decorating this place properly - I've got a shopping list about a mile long.

I love the style of your home Elements. I actually have the same colour combination going on in my Family room at the moment but the green is the accent colour rather than the taupe:).
Hang in there Silk Interiors - Rome wasn't built in a day:). I like Freedom's ready made curtains- maybe keep an eye out for when they are on sale.
My style at present (in a 70s boring house) is a bit nordic - retro ski prints with Ikea furniture - wood fire - white walls - colours are white + taupe/greige (but more grey than beige tints at present) with the odd burst of colour here and there.

Great tip, thanks Julie-Ann. I've been repeatedly disappointed by sales at Spotlight as they never have the colour I want in the length of the curtains I want. So I will keep an eye out for Freedom's sale :)

My home is a mix of about 3 different styles, so it's a bit of a mish mash, but the styles all work together to create a nice inviting home. It's a little bit French Prov, a bit English Country, mixed in with some Hamptons touches. Definitely more traditional rather than contempory. All the walls are a nice warm beigy taupy colour (not yellow or green), and I have white ceilings and all woodwork. Spotted gum flooring and a taupy coloured carpet.
At the moment, I'm loving some of the more industrial pieces of furniture I've seen around the place, but can't justify buying any...still eyeing off an expensive French style dining suite...

I've seen a table (seats 8) in The Works in Hawthorn. It's a lovely French oak with cabriole legs. There isn't an online image that I have found, though, but it's a cross between these 2 (without all the inlay on the top):

I can't decide which chairs to get, though:

I keep changing my mind!

Lol we have such similar taste:).
I am thinking we will get this table with the inlay.
I looked at both types of chairs too and also couldn't decide. My DH likes the dining chairs with the slipcovers that A-M has. I was thinking of getting this chair from Ikea and finding slipcovers in a bone colour similar to A-M's. But I am still looking to be sure.

I would class mine as Contemporary Casual...if there is such a style (I just made it up) :D Especially once we get the new kitchen in.
