Which do you prefer?
We have evaporative airconditioning for 2 reasons
1. I love to have the doors wide open in summer, especially the 4 metre wide stacking doors that we paid so much for. I like that outdoor/ indoor feeling.
2. We prefer to have gas ducted heating on winter. My DH suffers from hayfever and finds the gas less dry than reverse cycle heating.
And that works in Perth most of the time but there are probably 6 days a year when it gets near 40 and it is also humid - then I wish for reverse cycle:(
What about you do you prefer evaporative or reverse cycle airconditioning?

I sell new houses and deal with both systems. I have evap in my display home but have put reverse cycle in my own home. I really can notice the difference between the two. Personal preference though! I do agree that I miss flinging the doors open!

We have reverse cycle which I love, when it's 40+ it is so cooling and we often use the heating at the tail end of winter when you don't really need to light a fire. I find it much more cooling than evaporative and tend to turn it off later in the day and then open all the windows to let in the cool breeze.

We have never had evaporative airconditionig but whenever I have been to a house that has, it doesn't feel as cold as I like. I like too feel cold :-)

We had evaporative cooling in our previous home and we liked that it was economical to run and that we could use it as a sort of giant fan in our house whenever a cool change in the weather came.
However, we found that it didn't work well on humid days or on really hot days and some days it just made our house so humid that it wasn't much fun (we don't cope well with humid conditions).
In our current home, we have two reverse cycle air conditioners (well, one waiting to be installed). We only use them for cooling and we like their effectiveness at cooling our house. Only problem is, we no longer have a giant fan to blow in the cool change and our home is set in such a way that we don't get many breezes blowing through.
Having said all this, any cooling system is preferable to none!

Well Im going with the evaporative ducted cooling. My sisters got it and I think it cools it down enough to still enjoy the summer months then too be locked up in aircon all of it.
we have reverse-cycle but I seem to miss the whole of summer, as once that airson is on you never wanna go outside.
And we go the warm cosy fire in the winter months, I think you cant beat a winter days snuggled up on the couch with a good book and the fire going.

We have the reverse cycle air conditioning, its good, it works well, but would like to still have the doors flung open like Julie-Ann, we have the massive stacking doors and i just love them open. The kids get a bit fed up with, "keep the doors shut" when its hot out.
