View Full Version : Garden Make Over

The paving of our courtyard is nearly finished but I'm looking for ideas to complete the make over. Would love to hide UGLY water meters (see photo)! When paving is finished it will go under ... that'll be a bit better ... but they will still be a feature of the court yard! Any ideas?

Also, any suggestions what I can use to separate the Box hedge & the pavers ... see photo?

Thank a lot

I think covering them up would be the only way.

A simple solution would be a wooden box (nice slatted one?) and turn it over... add a pot.. make it look like additional seating. It could be easily lifted when you need to access the water meters.

As for the plant edge.. what about some pebble/stones to soften the hard line?

The timber planter box was my immediate response also, but it would be great to see where this area is positioned in relation to the house & adjoining areas to see the bigger picture and get a feel for the style of the home.;)

Thanks for your positive responses! Your thinking ... & our thinking ... are on a similar track. Probably needed reassurance about pebbles ... have HEAPS of them ... but only a vague idea about the box. Now on a mission to find the 'suitable' one.

As a follow up to the above ... we are nearly there!! We have used the black pebbles with great effect & a timber box ( slatted) is being made as we speak & will be painted a limestone colour. Stay tuned we might just finish this project any time soon.

The courtyard is complete with Travertine pavers (Italian stone) They are placed on sand & are brilliant!

It's finished! Finally the make over is over & we are so pleased with the end result. The finishing touch was ... the box! Following the advice of fellow poster Lanne we searched for a slatted box & eventually found Timber Living Outdoor & had one made ... & attached is the end result.

It looks fantastic Diablo.
Well done Lanne- a brilliant suggestion. You would never even guess the meters are under it. I hope the water meter reader can find them:D

My first thought was a timber box over it, with a feature or something on it, i was thinking along the lines of garden art, but the seat idea sounds cool too....and pepples was my other suggestion...i love pepples atm LOL...good luck with it...

That is truly magnificent! I love the way you've captured the traditional, park-like effect with the wall & metal railings. From the little bit of a glimpse of your house, I would imagine this complements the style of it beautifully. But you've also managed to capture a modern element as well. C'est magnifique!
