Can anyone tell me the difference between wool and synthetic carpets, and which one is better?
We bought an older house last year and the carpets really need to be replaced. We had a look at one store on the weekend but the guy serving was so vague i don't feel I walked out knowing any more than when I walked into the store.
We are just not sure if wool is worth the extra money and does it stain? for the price of it I would hate for it to be ruined by messy children.:)

Hi Flora,

Synthetic is more suitable for heavy traffic, hard wearing, lots of risk of spills especially with young children. So it can handle spills without staining. The house we are currently living in has synthetic carpets and I don't find it comfortable and in my opinion doesn't look good. Also with synthetic carpet the marks of furniture seem more permanent than with plush wool carpet.

I personally prefer wool carpets because they are more comfortable and I like the plush look and feel of the carpet. In my opinion the house just looks better. We had wool carpets when our kids were little and if there was a spill as long as we cleaned it when it occurred there was very little or no staining. We had a very light shade of carpet and having it steam cleaned once a year helped to keep the carpet in top condition.
Hope this helps you decide what is best for you.
