If you want to add some style into a room feature walls are a great option. Using a feature wall means you don’t have to redo the whole room to add that touch of style or that punch of colour. They are a great option if you want to add some colour but are a little nervous.

Here are some tips on how to choose which wall to use as your feature wall:
Often it is the wall you see as you walk in or the wall that has a focal point such as fireplace or bedhead on it.
If a room is narrow and long use one of the end walls, not a side wall as the room will only look even more narrow.
Try to choose a wall that doesn’t have too many windows or doors on it.

A very popular trend for the past few years has been to use wallpaper on a feature wall. This way you are not only adding colour but also pattern to the room and creating a real sense of your style. Featured walls also look great painted with textured paints such as Suede Effects paint. When trying to decide which colour paint or wallpaper to use select a colour from something else you have in the room, such as a painting or fabric that has been used.
And most importantly have fun with it- it is only one wall and will be easy to redo later.:D

Im a great lover of feature walls.
Take a look at my recent find in fabulous wallpaper by nina campbell from osborne and little. its very striking with the black background and colourful butterflies. Id like this as a feature wall in my bedroom, but like both... The black colourway is displayed in a shop in burleigh heads and I have just fallen in love with it. I keep having to find excuses to go in and drool over it. Here are some pics. :) although they dont look as striking as in real life.

Thanks Julie Ann they are gorgeous papers, unfortunately the pics dont do any justice whatso ever - so much better in real life. Please do post a pic of your feature wall, would love to see it. Porters Paints also have fab wall papers and the price is a little more reasonable, they do a dragon fly design, which is a favourite of mine too. Oh so many to choose from.

Hi Susie

I will be getting pictures of that house in January and will add the one of the feature wall here. The only feature wall I have in my house is one in Mr16's bedroom in Chelsea blue (I know you are not surprised at the colour selection). If he makes that bed properly (with a flat sheet) I will take a picture and post it:D
That room was the perfect example of when to use a feature wall. After 5 coats of paint to paint over the jungle green colour that was there I was not going to paint all 4 walls Chelsea Blue. So 3 walls are white and the feature wall in Chelsea Blue. So one day when he wants a more grown up room (probably to impress a girl- of course he will be over 30:D) I will only have to repaint one wall with 5 coats of paint;)
