We met with our builder this morning and we were lucky enough that a house we are considering building has been built about an hour away and is almost at hand over stage, he said that he would meet us there and show us thru :clapping: this afternoon.
Any who the house was fantastic, the living areas fantastic everything fantastic except when we got to the bedrooms. I have a real thing about little bedrooms :) The bedrooms looked really tiny, but when we got home we got the plans out and they are actually bigger than the bedrooms we have now which are not small.
So do you think its just perception? can a room look bigger once carpeted and furnishd?

I think furniture makes the room...when we brought our house the rooms looked tiny and they were mostly empty, a couple had a bed in them that was it and the lounge look small and all it had was a large TV and corner lounge. If you have the measurements on the plans for the rooms compare them to your current rooms and see what they actually look like that way

Yep that is what we have done tonight and the rooms in the new house are slightly larger than what we have now, but they just looked tiny :)

Its funny, cause when we emptied our loungeroom to paint it looked HUGE...but my sons room looked way smaller.
If the size is bigger than you got now, you got nothing to lose I guess LOL.

I find rooms look smaller unfurnished. Even some huge rooms I have found much bigger once we start putting the furniture in it. For those of you building for the first time in brick- when the gray render goes on before the white finish be prepared that the house will look much smaller. Actually at most stages - until the white walls are in - the house looks dramatically smaller:(.
If you want to Giggle_Smile let us know the room measurements and we can see how they compare to our bedrooms. Sorry I couldn't read the measurements of the floorplan.

I think an unfurnished room would look bigger.....I was thinking if you get a whole bunch of butchers paper and draw up a pattern of your lounges, beds, tables, appliances and when you get to the empty show home you can lay them on the floor and get a bit of an idea of how things might look. We did that with out transportable home. On the block of land at Adaminaby NSW we drew the house in stones on the block..... CATH

I love looking at show homes! Wagga is catching up a little with 800 or so new blocks of land for sale soon. We have 3 transportable home places, and they have some lovely homes. Uusually they just have carpets tiling, but are very nice and I think they are the way to go! Thanks Julie Ann!CATH

Unfortunatley we cannot get into the house again, it was not a show home it was a newly completed home that was getting handed over on Thursday.
Like i said on the plans the rooms are slightly bigger than what we have now, they just looked really tiny.
I might get the electrical tape out and tape up the floor boards in my house to the measurements of the room and have another re look :)

An unfurnished room will look bigger.
If your room is small, you better go for minimal furniture and if your room is spacious, you can have all sorts.
