I heard a review of this movie today and it wasn't good:(. The reviewer gave it 2/10:eek:. I was going to go and see it this weekend too. I have to go to bookclub about it soon and I haven't even bought the book:D.
Are you planning on seeing it? Or have you seen it already?

I am going to see the movie. I read the book a while back and although I finished it I'm not sure I can say I enjoyed it. I was hoping the movie might be better

When were you thinking of going KimG? It was the chap from Belmont cinemas on 6PR who gave the negative review. He said his wife didn't like it either:(.He said Julia Roberts and the scenery was great, he just didn't like the story. I think I am going to have to go as I don't have time to read the book.

Always wary when a film has so much advertising and so many promotions! The scenery will be beautiful so does it really matter if the film isn't!

I read the book last year and had mixed feelings about it. I would not think it would translate well into film btw. The story is about 'finding ones self' so a bit self indulgent at times. Nice for a story but really much happens that can be shown on the screen.

The reviewer actually made the comment that she seemed very self indulgent and that it was all about her and no-one else. I can't say that would impress me either. I am going to have to seriously rethink my plans for seeing it.

I am going to see this movie tomorrow afternoon with my dh. I got the tickets yesterday:) I saw a trailer a while ago and it looked good. I downloaded the book on my iPad last week and love reading it but unfortunately won't finish reading it before I see the movie. I don't read books often but this book seems so easy to follow.
Anyway I am looking forward to it and will let you know if I liked it:)

I looked to buy the book today to take away with us but I couldn't find it. Lucky because now I have mixed feelings.
Maybe its one of those movies that you would love if your going through some sort of upheaval(sp) in your life and you need some self indulgent time.
Or divorce and finding there is happiness in amongst the pain. Didn't mean to get deep:eek: But you all no what I mean right.
Different movies effect you depending on where your at in life.
I know I loved Avatar in 3d because there was so much going on and so much leaping out at me......and my life is so nuts right now it was fitting;):D
oh and of course because I am realllllly tall and blue:D

Lol- I get what you mean Elements - about the going through something not the colour of your skin:D. So perhaps I should take one of my many girlfriends going through a divorce. Gosh I hope don't walk out of the movie feeling so self indulgent that I decide to give my DH the flick:eek:;)

:D:D
Yes I think thats a fab idea. Remember you are going purely so you can support divorce girlfrineds on their quest to find themselves again. Not to look within, that can be dangerous:D.....speaking of which I went to my psychic appt wednesday....I feel very cleansed but thats for another thread.;)

Oh now I am really curious- did she say anything amazing? Yes I want all the details on a new thread. I wonder if others have ever been to a psychic?

I finally watched this movie last night and really enjoyed it. I know I am the target audience being a middle aged woman who has experienced the highs and lows of marriage.
I loved the Italy part. I was starving watching it. I enjoyed the scenes in India as she learnt so much about herself. And Bali made me feel like she had joy in her future.
I didn't find her selfish. I would have dropped that husband of hers too. i thought he was actually the selfish one. Everything seemed to be about him.
I have watched so many women friends and families go through this search for who they are. It seems to happen to women in their mid 30's and 40's. We can get so lost in being mothers, wives and business women that sometimes we don't know who we really are.
Have you ever been through a similar experience? I did and it was very strange but interesting. Mine was about clothes and accessories shopping:confused:. I shopped like a mad women from 9-5pm for 2 weeks whilst DH was away. it was about defining my style without his influence. All the decisions had to be mine and mine alone. I even drove 45 mins away on one day as it was a public holiday and they were the only shops open:eek:. But I found out a lot about who I was - I don't suit the bohemian look:D. Actually it went deeper than clothes. And by knowing myself so well I felt like a stronger person who could stand her ground when necessary.
So have you had an experience like these?
