What type of door architraves and skirting boards would you recommend for a contemporary home?

Hi Thisisme,

We went with standard metal framed door architraves so I may not be able to help you there. I am thinking being in the East you will be having wooden frames.
All I can mention in regard to this, is if you choose something reasonably ornate it stops being Modern as such and starts becoming a little more classic in style. You will also be making a feature out of your doors.
I think some houses can handle this and some can't depending once again upon style and on what else is going on in those areas.
The skirtings however are really a personal choice. Heights are to be considered and for me although our house is modern/classic the skirtings are to small to be classic but to ornate to be modern so I just went with the profile that appealed to me the best.
We did our skirtings after our floors were in so we could get a feeling by placing some samples against the floors. This may be an option for you. Most of the Moulding shops give out samples no problems.;)
I hope this helped a little.

I agree with everything Elements has said.:thumbs up: Contemporary look would be straight edges nothing fancy.
We chose Federation skirting boards and architraves but I can't remember if they were contemporary or not.
We are going to go to our builder showroom on Sunday and will be able to have a look which options they have available so I will have a look when we are there on Sunday.
I think a wider skirting board is more contemporary than a thinner board. I will ask them what their opinions are as well and will let you know.
