We are getting very close to finally finishing Mr17's study. I had to go with solid black curtains instead of the lovely striped ones. So the room is needing that final pop. I think a black and white striped rug will be the piece de resistance. But do you think I can find one:(. There was one at Ikea but it wasn't the bold stripes I am looking for. Has anyone seen any black and white striped rugs?

I LOVE the sounds of what you have done in the room.
I have seen black and white swirl rugs but not striped ones.....
Cant wait to see the end pictures!

Thanks Tammy- it is getting there slowly. Although there was some rapid stacking of books on shelves yesterday after I had a little hissy fit.:D
So far the walls are white, black curtains across 1 wall, black brown bookcases on another wall and a very large L-shaped black brown desk. The the black glass will sit above the desk. So you can see it needs a strong contrast of the black and white in a rug and some desk accessories. I might have to let my fingers do the walking:)

Yipee the New York rugs a goer:clapping:. Mr17 loved it. DH said he didn't care (he was busy with work). Mmmm- whilst DH is in the non caring mood perhaps I should order a Zebra striped rug for me too:D??? Do you think he would notice?

Love the chairs but we are going to go look for something more comfortable and supportive. We figure he will be spending a lot of time sitting in it over the coming years.

The rug looks great, Julie-Ann. Hopefully it will make up for the disappointment of the curtains, and we still get that NY feature into the room! So close to the finish line now!

I've been searching high and low for a Black and White striped rug for my living room. Julie-Ann, I did spot the NY rug, great choice for a guys room! Dealsdirect is good, and the price is excellent. It just doesn't have the straight retro looking thick black and white stripes I'm after....if anyone stumbles across one please help!!!!! Thanks a bunch :-)

Hi Amandalj welcome to the forum:).
Which state are you in? A rug shop in South Perth said they had a striped rug. I was going to go buy that and then someone here found the New York rug.
The other alternative is a Zebra striped rug- there seems to be quite a few of those around.

Hi Amanda, I am not sure if this is close to what you had in mind, but I fell in love with this rug and thought I would share.

Bad news on the rug- they don't have any less cream:(. Now to decide if we keep it or not:confused:.

It is disappointing but the company was very nice. They have offered a complete refund including delivery costs. I might check out a couple of rug shops before I decide.

Trying to decide- do I keep the New York rug that is black and cream or try to find something black and white?
If I keep the rug the walls are white- I can't be bothered painting them again.
I could paint the boxes black. I thought of using stickers in cream to write Titles on the front of the boxes and on the spine of black files. Should I - what do you think? Any other ideas to add cream to the black boxes?

Oh bother! The rug is so perfectly fabulous, aside from the creamness. I'm just not sure that you can live with the creamness (and I'm not sure if I could either).
I like your ideas for adding cream to the black boxes, if that helps any.

Yes the cream is hard to live with but the rug is so damn stunning:confused:.

Hi Julie-Ann and Amanda, I was in Freedom this morning and saw a black and white striped rug. The one I saw was their floor stock and it was $100 off. The original price is $399.00
You can have a look at their online spring catalogue on page 53 http://editions.magsbyme.com/Insite_Interactive/10009007#

That is lovely Milena- thanks for thinking of us:kiss:. Talk about timing I just decided before I checked my computer to keep the New York rug. Mostly because it is stunningly different but you can't beat $99:). So I will be painting the boxes instead. I will see how they look just black before adding any cream to them. But I will have to use the cream stickers to label the black files.
I hope Amandalj likes it. It is quite a few pages into the catalogue, for anyone looking.

Julie-Ann, your right that rug is to hard to pass up....this way you can customise the boxes perfectly.
Oh you know, you could draw a black new york skyline along one of the boxes for fun;)

Yes, Julie-Ann, do it! Another idea is to draw the skyline (a la the rug) across a number of boxes that will be placed next to each other.

Oh Milena and Dmplus3 you way over estimate my drawing skills. Actually my drawing skills are bordering on pathetic:D. Stencils and stickers I can do though.
