I thought this was amazing -so I rushed out and bought one.
It was at Harvey Norman's. Normally priced at $579 but the lady gave it to me for $530. I thought that was a bargain until my Mum went a couple of days later and got hers for $500.
It does a great job. I would say as good as my expensive power head vacuum.
But it doesn't do corners and tight areas so well. It also needs you to lift all the cords out of the way. And it bumps into things - so I always move my candelabra.
I love it. Now I need one to do the ironing, the cooking.... :p

Their website probably explains it best

But basically this cute little creature will go around the house vacuuming for 1 hour and then it needs to rest for an hour, then you push the button and it goes again.
You get this other item that can place a laser beam over an area and the vacuum wont go past the beam.
I like to keep him in small areas by using the beam or shutting doors - I find he does a better job.
He does miss tight areas and some corners - so every now and then you need to use the normal vacuum and go over these areas.
It is incredible!:D

Haven't seen one before! Wow! But I am not sure I could handle the no corners etc because I would end up doing it again. Do you have to?

No it actually does a fantastic job- better than my $600 Electrolux. I just sweep out the corners before it starts and let it rip. I can't remember the last time we used the big vacuum cleaner. It is brilliant on timber floors for keeping away dust bunnies:D. He is called Jeeves. My mum calls hers Sadie
There is a mop version as well that I would love to buy- it's called Scooba.

Ok that sounds good. Love the names hahaha! I will have to see one on display at Harvey Norman one day when I am up there. I am due for a new vacuum. Mine don't last long because I use it so much! How does it go on carpet?

I have seen that before Julie-Ann on TVSN, they have it for $499.00 pretty sure you can pay it off too. Was wondering how they went on timber floors. :)

It is brilliant on timber floors and tiles- no scratches.
But it is even better on carpet. It beats up the carpet better than the power head on my vacuum cleaner. I am addicted to having the carpet looking like it's just been cleaned- and this does the job.
The only negative is it only lasts an hour and then needs an hour to be charged up again. And after every hour you have to empty the dust collecting area.
Buy one -you will thank me:D

We also have one... We are thinking about buying a new one actually - We found another mob that do one that has a remote - and it mops too... :)
They are good for the likes of us that are lazy with everyday house work... ;)

Julie-Ann, is that the IRobot Roomba? I have looked at it on the tvsn.com.au website. This can be paid off over five months. YAY!!!! Good thing about tvsn, you get item after 1st payment, then they also have a 30 day money back guarantee....:D

Hi Lorraine yes it is the IRobot Roomba. Do tvsn have the mop one as well?
The money is the only thing stopping me from rushing up to Harvey Norman and buying that too.
701Design what's the name of the one with the remote? Does the one machine vacuum & mop?

Hi Julie-Ann, thank you. No tvsn haven't got the mop one, would be great if they had that one too then you could get it with the payment plan.

Drats I could justify it if it was on a payment plan:(

I know what you mean, think the payments for the irobot are after initial payment of just over $100.00 the rest is $89.80 for four months, pretty good. I'm not too sure if the have ever had the one with the mop. TVSN are selling it for $449.00 :)

Wow that is a cool little vacuum, wish I could afford one. No worries though as I have one in a different form, she is 4 and loves to help vacuum but also misses the corners and tight places too :D

That's so cute. Actually Dh would often do the vacuuming:D so there was no complaining when I said I wanted to buy one.

My hubby is very good and mostly does it at the moment as Im pregnant and he won't let me do it. The kids (9 & 4) both have a go too but it usually has to be redone quickly but its the thought that counts right?

Wow. This looks amazing :)
Our house is almost 400sqm, could this do the whole house in one go? Also, what is the warranty like?
Julie-Ann
13-06-2010, 02:22 PM
I haven't had to test the warranty yet and I think it is probably only 1 year. But everyone I know has not had any problems with them yet.
For your size house I would get 2- 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs. He only runs for an hour and then he needs an hour to recharge. He will go back to his little docking station to recharge all by himself though. The other negative is the dust collector is quite small and you need to empty him every 2nd time.
But the big bonus is whilst he is doing his thing you can be sitting on the computer chatting- just remember to lift your feet up when he comes past:D

Do you girls use it for your bathrooms as well? I shed so much hair and am just wondering how it performs in the hairy department :)

Rofl- that sounds so funny. Yes I use it on timber, tiles and carpet. With the bathrooms I wait until the afternoon when the floor is completely dry. Plus I use a little dustpan brush to brush out the corners and behind the toilet. Brush the dirt into the centre of the floor for the vacuum to collect.
There is a Scooba model that vacuums and dries. It has just come out and is about $800 I think. It is on my wishlist.

It vacuums and mops??? Perhaps I should invest one of these! What is the maximum crumb size these will pick up?

Just an update - I am sad to say though that I wouldn't recommend the robot vacuum for timber floors:(. At night if you stand directly under any of the lights you can see faint circles have been scratched in the floor from the robot vacuum. You don't really notice it unless you are looking directly at it at the right angle. But I know how fussy many of us are here so I wanted to let you know.
