So what did you all get up too on the weekend??
Well I decided lets start the DIY dining table project :thumbs up:
Very excited about it all and getting a new table well refurbished that is and is so please with the out come so far.
Havent actually finished it yet there is some really hard groovy bits to sand back and then a matt oil finish to bring out its natural colours.
Oh I so cant wait :D
Here is the Before shot!
Oh yes and there will be new chairs to go with the new refurbished table too ;)
And pic 2 the half complete shot. What do you think???

Well done Jaz_ben. It's looking great. I am wondering if using paint stripper in those grooves would help. My favourite paint stripper is Citristrip. It's effective and not so toxic.
My project this weekend was to put up the curtains in Mr17's study. Unfortunately when we put them up we saw they were faulty. So it is now a project for another day:(.

We didn't do anything on the weekend due to sport and BBQ commitments, but we did finally finish our water feature this afternoon

I saw a water feature similar to this on a tv show but I can't remember which one. Yours looks fantastic- very professional. Congratulations:clapping:

LOve the water feature hugg1979 looks great!! Dam shame about thoses curtains JA could you return them?
and paint stripper sounds like a plan too :D
Julie-Ann
09-08-2010, 07:06 PM
Yes they were happy to refund me. We opened up another pack of the curtains but they were faulty too. So I chose some plain black curtains instead. I haven't unwrapped them yet. Fingers crossed they are ok.
As well as using the paint stripper Jaz_ben if you fold a sheet of sandpaper around something like a paint scrapper, it should be easier to sand in the grooves. You are nearly there- keep it going:)

jaz_ben, I love that you have set your mind to this and made a start so quickly.
Hugg79, that water feature is fantastic. Great job!
The extent of our projects this weekend (we had a lovely 3-dayer) was rearranging Big Girl's room and my Dad put up some shelves that have been sitting in the garage for three months - oops! The room looks great, just a few finishing touches and I'll post photos.
Great thread, jaz_ben!

This weekend we continued work on Mr17's new study. DH put the desk together, which required a quick trip back to Ikea as one bit was the wrong colour:mad:. But it looks great- and is so big:love it:. I unpicked the crooked hem on the curtains and ironed them (which took forever). We then hung them so I can pin and hem them during the week. We decided on the size of the glass whiteboard, which I will order this morning. So Mr17 has moved in to his new study and soon it will just need the finishing touches:).
I also bought new orchids for the family room and the bathroom and repotted those.
What about you- what did you work on this weekend- anything?

well I didnt get too finish my table tho the chairs arrived. But we put the fencing up on the new place and I whipper snipped all thoses crazy weeds and sprayed them all it was a bIg weekend but achieved alot. Hopefully up to perth this coming weekend to buy the timber for the decking and if I can convince DH to take a look at the trestle desks in Ikea :D fingers crossed.

Well I think you were busy enough without tackling the table as well.
How do the chairs look with the table?
My DH had to pop over to Ikea last Saturday at about 2pm. He said it was busy but not crazy busy at all. Maybe that is a better time of the day to go to Ikea???

On the weekend, I pruned back the trees around the pool, relaid some pavers and white stones along the front path and with the help of DH, hung these canvasses I made. Sorry about the picture, it's the clearest I could get it. Last week I painted the loungeroom walls.

Great projects, ladies. You're all so busy!!
tracyel, what colour is that on your wall? I'm trying to decide on a shade of brown for our family room, but am struggling with the decision.

lol dm3plus3, don't apologise. You're not the first to mistake it for brown and I'm sure you won't be the last. I think a lot of it depends on the lighting. I wanted a deep burgundy red to make the room feel cosier. I have the same colour in my study and it looks completely different.

On second thoughts, Julie-Ann, I just accidentally showed Husband the colour samples on the family room wall on Skype, and he was not much chuffed! Maybe there won't be a new thread on that one!!!!

Does he want to keep it the same or is he open to some change, even if different colours to those you chose?
Also, I often find it is really that he just doesn't want to repaint the room himself:rolleyes:. Hence why I repainted Mr17's study:mad:.

This weekend seemed to fly by. Mr17 and I went shopping for his office chair. After trying out all 50 in the store he made his decision. And what a comfy chair it is.
The other project was pinning the hem on the curtains in Mr17's study. When I had finished my DH announced he needs to put a centre bracket up yet and the lengths might need to be altered:rolleyes::mad:.
Some grout has come away in Mr17's shower so DH had to chip out the old grout. But as I had feared some water had got behind the tiles. So now we are down to 1 shower for a few days whilst we wait for Mr17's shower to dry out before replacing the grout.
What about you- did you do anything around the house or garden this weekend?
Every weekend I think of how I am going to add to this thread- it's very motivating:).

Saturday/Sunday August 28/29:
Saturday saw us at the footy with all the children with one of them bringing gastro with him and not telling us until we were halfway there!!!
Sunday saw DH go out and I decided to hack at the kitchen some more!!! I am being left with less and less bench space every few weeks !!!! Me thinks I have to find a money tree to get this done before I have pulled all the kitchen out and we have nothing to go back in!!!
Whilst cutting down this piece of bench I had to fill in the old laundry chute and I am rather proud of myself with coming up with the idea of how I was going to put the new piece of chipboard in the hole!! I had 2 pieces of wood that were only like 60mm wide and around 300mm long. I put a few nails in them until they were poking through the other side and then i covered that side of the wood with builder's adhesive. Then came the hard part of hammering them in as I had to get on a funny angle and not fall down the hole on to the concrete floor below!!
Well as you can see I am still here and therefore managed to do it successfully with the 2 pieces of wood. Then the chipboard was cut to size and place ontop of the supports that I had covered in builder's adhesive too :D ..... we will need to put some gap filler round it but the bank is a bit shy at the moment so will have to wait to pay day!!
I am just proud of the fact that I knew what to do and didnt have to rely on DH to do it - although when he got home he tried to take over :mad: !!

I was way behind on the housework so had to spend a good part of the weekend catching up. But I did find time to spray the boxes in Mr17's study black. I also have started to polyfill some holes from the old curtain brackets in that room. But unless you count mopping floors and cleaning toilets a project- I didn't get much else done.
So were you productive this weekend?

Friday evening I spent putting a buffet, which I'm using as clothing storage and tv stand for the boys room, together.
Saturday started with me moving it into the boys room and reorganising practically the whole room, including a toy cleanout while the boys were taken to the shops.
Saturday afternoon was spent with me putting another buffet, which is being used in the master bedroom for DH clothes and the top for my stereo, together.
Sunday saw the old furniture being disassembled and moved outside. The laundry required a cleanout in order to remove the old washing mashine that died on Saturday, to make way for the new one we had to go and buy and install Sunday afternoon after having done our weekly shopping.
A very productive weekend, but I'm hoping to have a quiet one next weekend. Unless that is, someone comes over to install our kitchen cabinets:D

I cleaned out the laundry cupboards! Since moving in (almost 12 months ago) it has been the most neglected room. Things (mostly shopping bags!) just got shoved in cupboards and there was no proper organisation. I threw out a whole heap of bags that I would never need and re-organised the cupboards. There is so much more space now...to store more acc.u.m.ulated junk! :)

I Laid the foundations of how to finish off some of the rooms like the Laundry, Bedroom and Office.
These foundations were purely my artful way of slowly getting DH's acceptance of spending a bit of money he wouldn't normally want to spend.
So we are getting closer. BUt most of the coversations ended with " but you can't spend to much" To which I would answer I will do my research and present my findings.;)
Also we bought a pot and some plants for out the back and the front garden beds were planted.;)
I did nothing as I am still recovering and no physical exersion(sp) was allowed.;)

So this weekend very little has been achieved:mad:. It is a long weekend in WA and my DH has enjoyed the relaxation time a little too much. I have just said to him "I don't mean to nag but at 3pm of a 3 day weekend do you think you could do those 2 jobs I asked for:rolleyes:". So by tonight the 2nd bedside table for Mr17 will be put together and some major changes in the reticulation will have been completed - I hope.
Did you get much done this weekend?

On Saturday, I put 2 more cabinets together for our kitchen. Our brother in law (who is installing the cabinets) came around Saturday evening to get the ball rolling. Sunday evening saw me assemble 3 more cabinets. I'm still on the lookout for a decent cooktop and wall oven that aren't going 2 cost me the earth. Even though not much got done, I'm excited because what did get done was very important.:thumbs up:

A few chores were completed this weekend:clapping:.
I high pressure cleaned all the poured concrete garden kerbing and the driveway. The driveway was done by a chap a couple of weeks ago but the postman had left lots of tyre marks on it. All the paving has to be sealed on Tuesday, so it needed to be cleaned again. I have now put all 4 rubbish bins and my car across the driveway to stop the anyone messing it up before Tuesday. I don't think the postman is going to be too happy:o.
Hubby cleaned the pond. I told him I don't clean smelly ponds- too yucky. And Hubby worked on fixing some reticulation. Of course he didn't finish it because he was busy earlier watching motor car racing:mad:.
What did you get done around your house this weekend?

I mowed the grass Saturday morning and got sunburnt 4 my troubles. Sunday involved us doing a couple of tip runs. Had a really big clean up. Everybody is sore and tired, but happy that the yard and house looks much tidier.

I helped my son and his girlfriend move house. Her parents did *jack*, her Dad loaded his car with bags of things which I helped unload then he went off to play golf..............grrrrr.
We could have helped with your irrigation Julie-Ann, pretty expert at doing that......lol!!!!! :D

Oh no Tracyel you need slip, slop, slap even more. These days when I do outside chores I wear a cotton long sleeve shirt that buttons to the neck. Not exactly flattering or comfortable:(. But after 40yrs of age all the sun damage from gardening started to show. Good on you for all that hard work.
Lorraine I'm sure your son and his girlfriend noticed who was helping and appreciated it enormously. What we mothers will do for our children:D

Sounds like you all had a huge busy weeken! I was thinking I normally just get around to taking off the washing of the washing line until it's quite dark, then I realised it's probable better to do it that way, ...will keep those UVA"S AND UVB"S off our porcelain like skin~

We made a start on the feature garden for our backyard, and a path to the clothesline (not that the clothesline gets used much here in water logged Queensland). I will post photos once completed, hopefully by the end of the week. So productive, we are!!
